La mère de Valérie, procureure, tente de faire condamner Adam, un présumé tueur en série jugé pour le meurtre de six femmes. Mais il est tellement charmant que Valérie, encore adolescente, n'arrive pas à croire qu'il soit vraiment coupable, et bientôt, ils commencent à s'échanger des lettres. Adam se retrouve impliqué dans une évasion et finit par prendre la fuite.
