Sergueï Loznitsa restitue avec des archives, souvent uniques et inédites, les journées de deuil en URSS suite à la mort de Staline le 5 mars 1953. Le pays semble hésiter entre la pétrification et une ronde continue autour de la dépouille du tyran, dans une parade à la fois terrifiante et grotesque.
