Le 10 mai 1981, François Mitterrand est élu à la présidence de la République. « Les chars soviétiques » censés descendre les Champs-Élysées pavoisés de rouge, si redoutés par certains, n'ont pas défilé. Serge Moati revient sur cet épisode sous un aspect personnel, lié au rapport qu'entretenait le président à la télévision de son époque, et dont il fut l'un des témoins et acteurs.
